Michael Abril was born in Bogotá, Colombia, in 1975. Photographer and Industrial Designer, Abril completed his Industrial Design studies at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia in 2000.  As a professional, he has worked on projects in product design, visual communication and photography.  Clearly influenced by architecture and design, Abril started to be interested in photography in 2005. After a while doing personal photography projects, he moved to Montreal in 2008 decided to become a professional photographer.  Characterized by the preeminence of a documentary style, and strongly committed to creative communication ideas, Abril is now aiming his vision toward editorial & advertising imagery as the result of his training in commercial photography at Dawson College.

Né à Bogotá, en Colombie, en 1975, Michael Abril possède un baccalauréat en Design Industriel de l’Université Nationale de Colombie.  En tant que professionnel, Abril a travaillé à des projets de conception de produits, de communication visuelle et de photographie. Clairement influencé par l’architecture et le design, Abril a commencé à développer ses intérêts photographiques en 2005. Après quelques années à faire des projets photographiques personnels, il a décidé de déménager à Montréal en 2008 avec la motivation de devenir photographe professionnel. Caractérisé principalement par un style documentaire, et profondément dévoué à la création et à la communication visuelle, Abril dirige à présent sa vision vers la photographie éditoriale et publicitaire, suite à sa formation en photographie commerciale au collège Dawson.

  • Dec 2010. “Gang d’amis” & “My Neighbours”, final portfolio series public exhibition at Conrod’s, Dawson College, in Montréal.
  • March 2011.  “Gang d’amis” public photography exhibition at Laurette-Lozeau gallery. L.L. Lozeau, in Montréal.
  • October 2011.  Prix Lux 2011, Reportage-travel-tourism category winner with the photo-series called “La Pêche”.
